EQUIPT.
A 10 week career development life skills course for youth aged 16 – 23.
The course focuses around three main components; education,
Outdoor adventure and serving others.
The education component covers a variety of subjects with unit standards in First Aid, math’s, literacy and drivers license, the program has other components such as career development, goal setting, cv design, work experience and healthy living.
The out door adventure component provides unit standards in
canoeing, tramping, Adventure Based Learning, rock climbing and rafting.
(These units may very depending upon season) There are also activities such as high ropes pole swing, mountain biking, hunting and camping.
Serving others consists of cooking and serving at our weekly youth meal, helping out on our street caravan team serving food to homeless and intoxicated youth in manners mall Friday nights, working at Botanic gardens, and Karori mountain bike track.
The course is designed to help youth in areas of self esteem,
confidence building and prepare young people for further training or employment.
All youth who attend the course receive one on one support from our
Placement officer who works with them assessing personel development
areas and working with individuals to put together a development plan.
At the completion of or thru out the course, members are empowered and
supported into employment or futher training.
Youth initially attend for a ten week period for those who require
additional training the opportunity is available to roll over onto the next
course.
The course is funded by the Ministry Of youth Development in partnership

THE TRANSITION HOUSE (Inn)
Emergency accommodation for youth aged 15 – 20. The Inn can
house up to six youth at one time.
Referrals come various community organisations e.g. police, citizens
advice, Evolve youth center, court or from child youth and family ect. Youth can stay short term or longer depending on their needs. The house is staffed by up to four live in Christian volunteers. During weekdays youth attend school, courses or employment. The Inn has a day time youth worker and a social worker who work with the youth on a needs assessment and individual development plan. The plan is then carried out addressing various issues such as money ,family ,police ,court, accommodation ect. All residents are mentored and supported by the live in youth workers. APEX PROGRAM
An intervention program run at the local high school. The program is designed for students who would benefit from sessions on motivation, team work, leadership, self esteem and goal setting. The program caters for 8 students and runs for six months per course. One day there is an hour discussion session and the next a two hour adventure activity. An example of a session would be one day a discussion on goal setting followed by the next day an activity of indoor rock climbing the focus being achievable goals. Apex also has a strong mentoring component with students being mentored and monitored weekly for six months. Students are referred by the school guidance counselor.
GROUND ZERO
Ground Zero is a Friday night club for students from the local intermediate school. Youth from this program come from a variety of back grounds and ethnic groups living locally in the mount cook and newtown region. Ground Zero is a fun, interactive afternoon of games and activities and has a strong mentoring component. Once a year youth attend a week away trip to the Salvation Army out door adventure center where the youth experience rafting, canoeing, and the great out doors. This program is open to all youth of intermediate age living in the local area.
STREET BEAT CARAVAN
On Friday night the street beat crew set up in Manners Mall with a bbq cooking sausages, tea, coffee, milo, friendly conversation and a smiley face. The caravan is staffed by 614 Youth Services youth workers and youth from our life skills courses, teenage homes and youth community the emphasis being youth helping youth. Friday nights in Manners mall is a place where there is a lot of fighting and drinking the caravan is set up as a safe haven to support youth and encourage them to look after them selves, each other and to act responsibly.
YOUTH MEAL
The youth meal is the regular gathering for our community. Youth from all our programs, past and present, are given the opportunity to attend. It is a safe place where youth can come play games and enjoy interacting with each other and members of the 614 community in a relaxed social environment. Youth from the life skills equipt course cook the evening meal as part of their service project. Later in the evening there is a small church service with an interactive gospel message. The youth meal/church is where we link youth into wider big events such as Taupo rugby touch sevens, camps, music festivals, discipleship groups, searcher groups, Christian conferences ect. The youth meal starts at 330 on Wednesdays and finishes at 7 oclock.
TEENAGE GIRLS HOME
The female accomodation is a two bedroom house staffed by three live in youth worker volunteers. At the present the home is a work in progress with only enough room for one referral from Child youth and family. The Salvation Army has donated money to do extensions to the existing site so as we can house up to three community referrals. We are hoping for this to be completed within the next six months. The female accommodation is for youth aged 16 to 21 years of age and will operate similar to the male accommodation with a social worker carrying out a needs assessment and individual development plan. The plan is then carried out addressing various issues such as money, family ,police ,court, accommodation ect. All residents are mentored and supported by the live in youth workers. EQUIPPING STATION
This is church but not as we know it. An interactive church service for committed Christians who are part of the 614 community. Returning to the roots of our Christian faith the equipping station is where we worship, train, and equip the saints to meet the call of the great commission. The Equipping station is 10.30 Sundays 209 the Parade Island Bay.
